ABOUT MMBGALLERY
Founded in 2011, My Mother's Basement is a platform for emerging artists to present their work to the public through alternative spaces and exhibition opportunities. The intention is to give burgeoning artists and curators in the early stages of their careers the opportunity to gain experience through the display of work that would otherwise remain stored away from view.
No fees are required to exhibit.

THE MILK BOX GALLERY: PHEOBE LEE
The temporary miniature gallery was installed in one of the non-operational milk delivery boxes in a Toronto apartment building that was constructed in the 1920s. The first exhibition featured work by Phoebe Lee, a Toronto based dietitian, musician, and artist. Lee was invited to produce work for the miniature space, and created an exhibition of tiny paintings referencing instagram food photos. Such images are often posted and shared through social media, and this exhibit in turn was presented through Instagram. Lee is concerned with food insecurity, community, and destigmatizing the discourse around food and nutrition. 2016 The Milk Box Gallery Toronto, Ontario. |
