We live in a time when art is frequently first encountered and viewed online. In this virtual space, everything becomes homogenized and often seems randomly presented, taking on multiple new meanings based on the changing context. Works are also being presented in less than ideal conditions; small image sizes, blurring, cropping, screen restrictions, low quality resolution, computer glitches, file corruption, slow loading time etc. These virtual experiences begin to form a new language and aesthetic of digital culture.
By introducing these circumstances back into a tangible form, my work explores the relationship between our physical existence and the world of digital media that is shaping it. As a profile picture acts to humanize a non-human form; my paintings work to connect contradicting aesthetics, operating as a gateway between digital culture and material space.
